What are the requirements and what is good to know before you apply for USMLE Preparation Courses.

 

KAPLAN Enrollment policy updates:

Plan your course in advance. Start dates for In Center programs enrollments should be set within 7 MONTHS of application date. To be clear, a student can never start more than 7 months out from application date unless paid in full and start is within 12 months.

Advance planning allows students to have enough time to prepare application documents for I-20, to plan and prepare for visa interview, and travel arrangements.

When making changes to a start date, it cannot be set to be more than 7 months from the original purchase date.

If student has already enrolled and wants to change the start date, course must be paid in full before changing the date.

 

Early Access Update

There is an important update regarding our New York Center Live + In Center course. As of October 1st, 2024, In Center programs are NO LONGER ELIGIBLE for Early Access.

  • On-Demand and Qbank:Students get access on the selected start date for the duration purchased.
  • Live Online:Students get “Early Access” to On-Demand resources as soon as they paid in full or IB. Students then get 7 months of full program access from the start date of their classes.  
  • In Center: As of October 1st, 2024, students NO LONGER get “Early Access” to On-Demand resources as soon as paid in full. Students get full program access from the start date of their classes. 

 

Documents required for application:

For students planning to study in the USA.

  • Copy of Applicant’s valid passport
  • Proof of Scholastic Preparation

For admission to a preparation course for USMLE program, the applicant must provide a transcript or diploma from a college or university showing that course of study normally required for enrollment is in progress or has been completed.

Students required to provide a proof of Medical Degree ( Medical school transcript).
To apply for Step1 and Step 2CK Courses students need to have completed Basic Sciencies subjects that are included in schedule plans of any Medical Faculty in first years. This is mostly relevant for students completed minimum 2nd year of Medical Faculty.

  • Proof of English Proficiency

The applicant may submit anyone of the following.

The following scores and documents are acceptable:

a) TOEFL certificate

Test scores must be dated within 24 months of application

A minimum TOEFL PBT score of 530
A minimum TOEFL CBT score of 197
A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 71
A minimum TOEIC score of 710
A minimum IELTS score of 5.5

b) A degree from an American high school, college, or university

c) A letter, transcript or degree from a foreign college or university attended that confirms English is/was the primary mode of instruction

  • Application Form for International Students

Application Form will be provided you based on your request, first please complete the Registration Form

In order to efficiently and accurately process your enrollment, you will need to submit a completed Application Form for International Students. It is neccessary that you fill out the entire application. Failure to do so may create unnecessary delay in the issuance of the I-20 and /or errors in the processing the enrollment. Please provide the name on Application how it appears in applicant’s passport.

  • Proof of Financial Eligibility

Please submit a copy of the student’s, student’s parent’s or a bank letter on official bank stationery confirming that the funds required to meet the estimated cost of study are available. The date, account’s holder name, and account balance must be clearly identified, and the letter of statement must be dated within 180 days of the application.

Student Visa Information
students planning to apply for an I-20 visa for study in the USA are required
to demonstrate adequate financial support for the entire enrollment period.
Estimates a student’s cost of study as follows:
$300 Application Fee
+ Tuition fees
+ $85 per month (Insurance fees, if applicable)
+ $1000 per month (average living expenses)
+ $400 per month for each dependent
= Total cost of study*

It is the responsibility of the student to arrange all applicable travel permits or visas and to have a valid passport. If you need our guidance on visa application process please do not hesitate to contact us.

Shipping fee for books

You can expect the following fees charged for the books.

Students who take In Center with Live course will get books in in New York Center for free.

Students who take Online course may purchase books (cost per Step) for :

$25 USD when books shipped to the Kaplan Center in USA or

Health Insurance

If a student elects Kaplan insurance, coverage will begin on the first day of class. Kaplan insurance cost $115 per month. There are additional fees for each dependent. If you require health insurance arranged by Kaplan, please select it on application form.

If you have arranged your own health insurance, you are required to show proof of adequate coverage (insurance membership ID card) on the first day of class. Insurance fees are non-refundable. If an I-20 student is not able to show proof of adequate coverage on the first day of class, he/she will be required to purchase Kaplan insurance.

Payment Information

Application fee and course deposit fee must be paid at enrollment time.

Application fee is $300 (US dollars) is non-refundable fee and required for all IMG applicants when I-20 issued.

Minimum course deposit required to be paid at enrollment time is $500 for each Step and it’s refundable in case of visa denial.

Remaining tuition should be paid latest 30 days before course start date.

 

How to pay ?

Upon receipt and review of your application and documents, a Kaplan Student ID number and a link to a secure online Payment Form for communicating payment information will be provided by e-mail. Enrollments are confirmed AFTER Kaplan receives and verifies the payment information. Payments are typically verified within five 5-7 business days.

For payments by Wire Transfer:

Please send the wire transfer before completing the Payment Form. Please include the Student Name and Kaplan Student ID number in the wire transfer notes.

The following information will be collected on the Payment Form: The Kaplan Student ID number, the payment amount that Kaplan will receive in USD after your bank deducts any related transfer fees, the bank name (that sent the transfer), the bank reference number, and the date of the transfer.
Please be prepared to attach a PDF copy of the wire transfer receipt when completing the Payment Form.

For payments by Credit Card:

If you are using a credit card that was issued by a bank outside the United States, please notify your credit card company that you are authorizing this payment. If you do not notify your credit card company in advance, it is very likely that the transaction will be declined by your credit card company.

The following information will be collected on Payment Form: The Kaplan Student ID number, the amount authorized (in USD), credit card type (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover), the credit card number, the credit card expiration date, the cardholder name, and the cardholder billing address, city and country.

If you are going to use Installment Billing payment. How it works?

Installment Billing flow

Including the initial payment, students are only allowed a maximum of 3 payments.  Each installment will be a third of the tuition.  The $25 installment billing fee is paid only once.  All additional fees, such as the installment billing fee, shipping fee, and application fee are included in the first installment.

Essentially, this is how student will be charged:

Initial payment – 1/3 of the tuition, plus the shipping, installment billing fee, and application fee

2nd installment – 1/3 of the tuition charged automatically, 1 month later

3rd installment – 1/3 of the tuition charged automatically, 1 month after the 2nd installment

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you are unable to start your program due to visa denial or other circumstances, we will refund all money paid less any non-refundable charges (application fee, housing cancellation fee).

The Application fee is non-refundable. The $300 Application Fee will be waived if the student can provide proof that the Visa was denied.

Any student who cancels the housing request less than 21 days prior to the start date of housing will be charged a $200 Cancellation Fee. The Cancellation Fee will be waived if the student can provide proof that the Visa was denied.

If your enrollment is terminated by the school, the following tuition refunds will apply:
Students receive a 100% tuition refund if cancel prior to or on the first day of class. To be eligible for a refund, the Kaplan ID card and all home study materials must be returned in usable condition. All requests for refunds must be made prior to the course expiration date.

If students are unable to start or to complete the course, or in the event that the student’s enrollment is terminated, Kaplan does offer the following refunds through the third training session.

Cancellation after course start date:

  • 100% of tuition refunded before any training session* excluding any non-refundable
    fees identified above.
  • 75% of tuition refunded after one training session but before two training sessions*
  • 50% of tuition refunded after two training sessions but before three training sessions*
  • After completing three training sessions, NO REFUND*
  • Admitted students who enter the U.S. on a Kaplan-sponsored I-20 and subsequently never attend Kaplan classes, will not get course refund payment when applying for refund.

 

* A training session for test preparation programs is defined as any of the following:

(1)attending one class (teaching section or proctored exam)
(2)one visit to the in-center training library
(3)use of online training resources (workshops, quizzes, etc.)
(4)one tutoring session or one consulting session or
(5)use of the home study materials.
